Great turnout at Flat Cap 5

A strong contingent of 17 Penistone runners competed in the Tony Audsley Flat Cap 5 at Dewsbury on Thursday evening. Martin Ball led the club home, finishing 17th overall in 33-54 and placing fourth in the men’s over50 category. Robin Clough followed in 38-20, with Rory O’Sullivan recording 40-21. Gemma Nutton was the first Penistone lady, finishing eighth female overall and fifth senior lady in 41-06, shortly ahead of Matthew Coldwell and Chloe Hinchliffe. Sue Braddock claimed second place in the ladies over60 category in 42-42, while Jill Scrivens was second in the ladies over50 category in 44-17. Keith Gordon completed the club’s trio of category podiums, taking third place in the men’s over70 category in 48-08. Penistone also finished fourth in the mixed-team competition through Martin Ball, Robin Clough, Gemma Nutton and Chloe Hinchliffe.

Ashley Firth led Penistone home at the weekend’s York 10k event, finishing in an impressive time of 36:27, claiming 67th position overall. Also running were sisters Angie Rollinson and Kate Rushforth, finishing in 59:10 and 59:11 respectively.

At the Stoney Middleton fell race in midweek, Damian Kilpin was first back for Penistone in 18th place (37:39) , followed by Steve Sanders in 29th (40:42). Both earned second place in their respective categories of v45 and v50. Shaun Swallow and Stuart Woodhead also ran. Steve Sanders was also in action at the Lee Mill fell race in Bacup, getting around the 6.4 mile, 1200ft ascent course in 59:11.

On the parkrun scene, Jade Crosby and Hannah Shaw claimed first gender places at Barnsley and The Pastures respectively. Meanwhile, Flynn Rogers was the first finisher at Hellbrun Parkrun in Austria. Emma Stead made it 150 parkruns at Frickley, Kelvin Bowskill did his 400th parkrun at Brierley Forest and Kate Rushforth did her 150th parkrun at Penistone. Dawn Broom topped the age-graded rankings with an impressive effort 89.06%.
