Five Penistone runners take on brutal Trigger race
The 2024 Trigger race took place on Sunday, a brutal 20.5 mile race across the moors from Marsden to Edale involving over 5400 ft of elevation.
First back for Penistone was Richard Cottam in a time of 4:02:50, finishing in 29th place. Simon Pike, Chris Hodgson, Harriet Drouin and Helen Wright also finished the race - completing the physical endurance and navigation challenge in any time is a great acheivement.
Former Penistone runner Phil Montgomery, who now runs for Dark Peak Fell Runners, had a strong run to finish fourth overall in a time of 3:28:09.
At Barnsley AC’s midweek track meet, James Mumford set a new v40 club record over 2 miles with a time of 11-23.5.
Simon Pike competed in both the one and two mile events, finishing third in his race in the former.
On the parkrun scene, George Parr finished first at Penistone whilst Flynn Rogers won at Hillsborough junior parkrun. Dawn Broom also had a strong run to finish second at Concord parkrun with an age grading of 82.45%.
At Battlestead Croft Parkrun in Burton-on-Trent, Keith Gordon set a new v75 record with a time of 26-17.
