Runners in action on fells and road
Richard Cottam was fourth overall and first over40 man at the Stanage Struggle, which is a 6.5 mile fell race based out of Hathersage in the peak district. His teammate Steve Standers picked up third place in the men’s over50 age category.
The John Hewitt Memorial Shelf Moor fell race acted as the latest and final round of the English fell running championships so the standard of competitors was very high. Helen Wright was seventh in the ladies over40 age category in 1-18-42 and Richard Cottam managed eighth place in the men’s over40 age category in a time of 51-14. Damian Kilpin placed 13th in the men’s over45 age category in 54-40.
On the road a number of Penistone runners competed in the Sheffield 10k, first man back for the club was Daniel Hague in 43-03. First lady back for Penistone was Jill Scrivens in 1-00-06. In the junior race Flynn Rogers grabbed first place in 6-54.
The presentation night for the Trunce summer series saw a number of Penistone runners pick up series prizes. Penistone winners were George Parr (first open man), Richard Cottam (first over40 man), Lesley Parker (first over40 lady), Barbara Haigh (first over70 lady), Ray Brown (second over70 man), Jon Hallam (third over40 man) and Helen Wright (third over40 lady).
On the parkrun scene there were first places for Suzanne McGill (Penistone) and James Fryers (Jesmond Dene). There were second places for John Lawcock (Marple) and Tom Fryers (Storey's Field). In terms of age graded times Bernice Nixon was first with 76.75% followed by Tom Fryers (75.58%) and Suzanne McGill (74.48%).
