Thanks to Shaun Dimelow for organising, Martyn Cartwright, Keith Binney and others for officiating, Katie Dimelow for the excellent buffet, and all those from Penistone and Barnsley who supported the event.

The results from the Amble’s Revenge on 30 December 2018 are here. Thanks to all who ran, marshalled, and helped in lots of other ways to make the event such a success again.
The race was won by Tom Saville of Dark Peak Fell Runners in a new course record time of 40:15. First lady was Laura Gill in 53:34. First male team was Penistone (Scott Hinchcliffe (2nd), Gareth Cooke (4th) and Dan Limb (14th)). First ladies’ team was also Penistone with the first three places: Laura Gill, Julie Darigala and Becky Timms. In all, 85 ran. The full results are here.
We have a new website for the club standards for road running. All the qualifying road races and parkruns are now taken directly from the British Athletics Power of 10 website, which means we can include races from before 2017. We have also adjusted the standard times to make them consistent across all age/sex groups and distances. A detailed explanation of the standards is on the standards page. The current standings for all Penistone runners are listed here and will be updated regularly. If you want to submit a race that is not included on your Power of 10 page, please send details to John Broom – if approved it will be added manually. Certificates of achievement for new standards achieved in 2018 will be awarded at the club presentation night.

All the results from last night’s club mile, 4x400m and junior races are here. Despite being pipped by the impressive Barnsley AC teams, both the Penistone 4x400m relay teams broke club records, and there was a new V55 record set by Sue Hall for the mile. Several juniors came within a second of their age group records, so there is good potential there. Thanks to everyone who supported it across both PFR and Barnsley AC, and in particular to Shaun Dimelow, Martyn Cartwright, Keith Binney, Helen Fryers, Jill Carlton and Sophie Dimelow for all your contributions to the running of the evening.
Congratulations to Nathan Lawson and Katie Walshaw, each winning last night’s Hartcliff Hill race by a big margin in times of 16:46 and 19:17 respectively, making a mockery of heavy conditions. The full results are here. Thanks to all organisers, marshals and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, and to all runners.
Results for final race are here.
A disappointing turnout of 42 runners for the last race despite a pleasant enough evening, albeit a bit breezy on the tops. Obviously this helped Andrew who, in his first race for a few years, ‘breezed’ to a win by over two and a half minutes. Not that this mattered, as tonight was really about who won the championship. Jill was second in the race with a much improved time but the big winner was Shelley Gill who can claim the winter handicap championship. Second place goes to Sue Hall and third to Simon Pike. All the qualifying runners are in bold on the results. Times in general were down due to the wind but yet again Alan Knox was consistent enough to take 3rd place in the WMA on the night and first place overall. 2nd in WMA was Richard Mackie and 3rd was Matt Robinson. They will be joined as trophy winners by Laura Gill and Damian Kilpin as fastest lady and man. Congratulations to everyone. A great series blessed by good weather and many thanks to the helpers. Martyn, Janet in particular and Paul for the excellent results service. It might seem a long way off but it will be no time at all before it all begins again. Enjoy the summer and don’t forget it’s the Winter (Christmas) Handicap (the other one) this coming Sunday. Details here.

As runners we all spend time out training, buying the latest kit and entering races. But the one thing most of us forget, can’t be bothered to do or just don’t know how to do, is a post run stretch. In an attempt to keep injury free we really should not ignore this part of our training routine.
This link shows a number of key stretches that all runners should do post run. They shouldn’t take more than 5-10 mins and your muscles will appreciate them.
