In 2016 we introduced a club championship for the junior section of the club. The format is the same for 2017.
Current standings (18 June) are here.
Final results for 2016 are here.
Junior members gain points for participating in qualifying events, including Junior Trunce, Junior Silkstone Shuffle, Barnsley junior parkrun, the club mile (600m for Under 11s) and other local fell and trail races. Boys/girls are awarded points independently. Age groups for the whole of 2017 are based on age on 31st August 2017. So those who are (in January 2017) in school years 3, 4 and 5 are under 11, years 6 & 7 are under 13, years 8 & 9 are under 15 and years 10 & 11 are under 17.
In 2017, to qualify for prizes, junior members must score points across a range of the available events. For under 11s and under 17s, a minimum of 5 scores is required and for other age groups a minimum of 6 scores is required.
Junior Trunce (Under 13s, under 15s and under 17s only)
Best time in any of the 9 races in the 2017 series will count. 20 points for the boy/girl with the fastest time, 19 for the second fastest, etc, down to a minimum of 5 points for all that compete. The minimum age to enter the Trunce is 10, which excludes some under 11 runners, so the Trunce cannot be included in the championship for under 11s. 2017 results are here.
Best time in any of the 4 races in the 2017 series will count. 20 points for the boy/girl with the fastest time, 19 for the second fastest, etc, down to a minimum of 5 points for all that compete. 2017 results are here.
Barnsley junior parkrun (Under 11s, under 13s and under 15s only)
Best time in any Barnsley junior parkrun during 2017 will count. 20 points for the boy/girl with the fastest time, 19 for the second fastest, etc, down to a minimum of 5 points for all that take part. The maximum age to enter the Junior parkrun is 14, so the Junior parkrun cannot be included in the championship for under 17s. A summary of PFRAC Junior results at the Barnsley junior parkrun is here.
Best position in any of the 4 races in the 2017 series will count.
These are separate races for each age group, so points will be awarded in each age group: 10 points for the boy/girl in each age group with the best position, 9 for the second best, etc. 2016 results are here.
Club mile (600m for under 11s)
10 points for the boy/girl with the fastest time in each age group (U17/U15/U13/U11) at the club event on Wednesday 24th May, or any official UKA-recognised outdoor middle-distance track event during 2017.
Under 13s may choose to do 800m or 1500m instead of 1 mile: their 800m or 1500m time will be converted to an equivalent 1 mile time using official age grading tables. Results from the 2016 event are here.
Other fell/trail races
For each race, the first boy/girl in each age group (these will be the new 2017 fell running age groups, ie U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 on the day of the race or on 31 Dec – it’s up to the organisers) will get 10 points, second 9, etc. Each junior athlete will get points from up to five events (four for under 11s and under 17s): if they take part in more than five/four of the events below, their points from the best five/four will count.
